Redirecting the Praise

Redirecting the Praise

Reading: Acts 14:8-18 and Psalm 115:1

Devotional: The crowd in Lystra witnessed a man who had never walked leap to his feet, and they immediately turned their worship toward the men God had used. Paul and Barnabas tore their robes and rushed into the crowd to stop it. Psalm 115:1 declares that glory belongs not to us but to God alone, on the basis of his love and faithfulness.

Persecution can pressure us to abandon our assignment. Praise can tempt us to forget whose assignment it really is. Both are dangerous. A life well lived does not simply give people a reason to admire your story. It gives them a reason to turn toward your Savior.
Reflection Question: Is there any area of your life where you have been receiving credit that belongs to God?

Practical Application: The next time someone compliments you for something God did through you, practice redirecting it out loud. Say something specific that points back to him. Make it a habit rather than an afterthought.
