Grace Confronts and Humbles
Reading: Acts 9:1-9 -- Saul, consumed with threats against believers, is suddenly stopped on the road to Damascus by a blinding light and the voice of the risen Jesus. He falls to the ground, loses his sight, and spends three days without food or drink. Reflect on how grace does not always arrive gently.
Devotional:
Saul was educated, zealous, and absolutely certain he was doing God's work. He was also completely wrong. His certainty had outrun his humility, and he could not see the truth standing directly in front of him. So grace arrived not as a gentle invitation but as a collision -- a blinding light, a voice from heaven, and three days of helplessness.
Sometimes the most gracious thing God can do is refuse to let us keep going in the wrong direction. Saul's physical blindness was a picture of the spiritual blindness he had carried all along. Before grace could use who Saul was becoming, it had to dismantle who Saul had been. Humility is not the enemy of conviction. It is the condition through which God can actually work.
Personal Reflection: Is your certainty currently greater than your humility in any area of your life? Where might God be trying to redirect you?
Practical Application: Spend time in quiet today -- no agenda, no talking. Simply ask God to show you where you may be confidently headed in the wrong direction.
