Grace Crosses Every Boundary
Reading: Acts 8:30-38 --
Philip approaches the Ethiopian official, asks a question, listens, opens the Scriptures, and preaches Jesus. The Ethiopian responds with faith and is baptized. Reflect on every barrier this encounter crossed -- ethnic, geographic, religious, and social.
Devotional:
The Ethiopian had every reason to believe he did not belong. He was a foreigner, a Gentile, a eunuch, and by religious law, excluded from the full assembly of God's people. He had traveled enormous distance and gotten as far as religion could take him. But grace came the rest of the way.
Notice how Philip approached him -- not with a sermon prepared in advance, not with an argument, but with a question and a listening ear. Grace entered that man's world before it ever spoke a word into it. The lines we draw around people -- social, racial, moral, historical -- are lines God has never agreed to honor. His grace specializes in crossing every boundary we construct to keep certain people at a distance.
Personal Reflection: Who have you quietly placed outside the reach of your compassion? What boundary have you drawn that God may be calling you to cross?
Practical Application: Identify one person in your life you have written off. Pray for them specifically today, and ask God if he is calling you to re-engage with them.
