Grace Entrusts the Ordinary
Reading: Acts 9:10-19 -- God speaks to an ordinary disciple named Ananias, sends him to Saul, and through his obedience Saul regains his sight and is filled with the Holy Spirit. Reflect on how God chose someone unknown and unremarkable to carry out one of the most significant moments in the history of the church.
Devotional: Ananias was not an apostle. He was not a well-known evangelist. He was simply described as a disciple -- a believer, someone who followed Jesus. And yet God entrusted him with one of the most consequential assignments in the New Testament. The man Ananias ministered to would go on to write much of the New Testament and carry the gospel to the ends of the known world. But none of that happens without one ordinary person saying, "Here I am, Lord," and then walking through his fear to a street called Straight.
God gives extraordinary assignments to ordinary disciples. Do not disqualify yourself from being used by grace simply because you do not feel significant enough. Ananias did not feel safe enough, and he went anyway.
Personal Reflection: What fear is currently keeping you from an act of obedience God has been calling you toward?
Practical Application: Take one concrete step today toward something God has been prompting you to do that you have been postponing out of fear or a sense of inadequacy.
