Pray, Then Listen for the Knock

Pray, Then Listen for the Knock

Reading: Acts 12:12-17; Jeremiah 33:3

Jeremiah 33:3 records God's invitation to call upon Him, with the promise that He will answer and reveal great things. The church in Mary's house prayed intensely for Peter. Yet when Peter knocked at the door, they called Rhoda out of her mind for saying he was there.

They believed enough to pray but struggled to believe God had actually answered. This is a gentle, even humorous, correction for all who pray. We often spend more time asking God to move than expecting Him to actually show up. The power of prayer rests in the faithfulness of God, not the perfection of the people praying. Pray, and listen for the knock.
